Cooking

Originally set up for men. We meet at 11 o’clock on the first Wednesday of each month for coffee, before cooking a two-course lunch together and then enjoying the fruits of our labours!

The Host of the Month chooses the menu and supplies the ingredients some notes on preparation … and also the wine!! The whole operation usually takes about 3 hours from 11.00.

The Group operates on a rota basis but the rota is flexible so members can swap if necessary. Some interesting dishes have been created over the years. Conversation flows and the aim is always to have some fun.

The Winchester U3A Cooking Group concluded its 2023 programme with the usual monthly session on the first Wednesday in December plus baking cakes for Winchester U3A’s Christmas Meeting at Littleton Memorial Hall on Tuesday December 12th.

Several different cakes were provided and they went down a storm with the large number of Members who attended.

Our “Host of the Month” model works well however and could be the template for new groups. Although originally set up for men to improve their cookery skills, we are now happily a mixed team, sharing the preparation of lunch and then eating it together.
