Gardens

We organise monthly visits to private gardens in the Hampshire area, selected from The National Garden Scheme who support various charities.

During the inclement winter months we may have a lecture on a garden subject of interest and a Festive lunch.

We are an active group of 30 members  who enjoy visiting National Garden Scheme open gardens throughout Hampshire.    A recent visit was to Hambledon House  the home for the last 30 years of Captain and Mrs David Hart-Dyke

Diana Hart-Dyke is a real gardening enthusiast spending six hours daily working in the three-acre garden in the centre of Hambledon.   After welcoming us with coffee and cakes she gave us an enjoyable and informative guide to the garden that is partly walled with wide borders containing unusual shrubs and perennials, secluded areas, specimen trees and open views over the village.

It was also interesting to hear about their large house which was originally a small eighteenth century cottage and then extended over 200 years by several previous owners.

As is our usual custom we then moved to a local pub for lunch and enjoyed socialising with fellow members.

Group Coordinators are Jackie & Clive Boot and thanks to Sylvia for the report.
