Winchester

Local History 5

This local history group considers particular time periods in local history, or arranges study around particular local historical themes, such as education, transport or crime. Typically, members of a group research topics which interest them and then make short presentations to their group. In addition to these indoor activities, groups also often make visits to local sites of historical interest, particularly during the summer months.

Having covered the history Winchester from Roman times, we have expanded our scope to the whole of Hampshire.

We are currently looking at authors related to Hampshire and the towns and villages in Hampshire. However, our members are very inquisitive and have investigated many other topics such as King Alfred Motors, the Swing Riots and Land Use and Enclosure.

We look to members making 2–3 presentations a year in a friendly atmosphere. We would welcome a new member.
